2016 Polls: Drama Unfolds As EC Accepts PPP’s Filing Fee

The Electoral Commission has shockingly accepted the Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP) filing fee, despite rejecting that of other presidential aspirants who have so far submitted their nomination forms, StarrFMonline.com has gathered.

The EC Thursday said it was not going to accept filling fees from presidential and parliamentary aspirants because an interlocutory injunction has been placed on the process by the PPP.

Frontrunners in the polls, President John Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo, returned home with their filing fees.

However, an attempt to make payment by the PPP despite taking the matter to court was held on by the EC chair as she refused to handover a bankers draft which had been inserted in the forms of the party.

The party’s chairman Nii Allotey Brew Hammond who led the delegation was visibly astonished by the development but Mrs Charlotte Osei remained resolute with her decision to keep the cash cheque.

The PPP has filed a case in court challenging the amounts being charged Presidential candidates and Parliamentary aspirants by the EC. The court is yet to open hearing into the matter.
