Seventy-Two (72) persons within the Wa Municipality in the Upper West Region have benefited from the Disability Fund, a component of the Districts Assemblies Common Fund (DACF)
The beneficiaries including fifty-two (52) students from the Wa School for the Deaf and members of two associations (The Women’s Wing of Ghana Blind Union and the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled), received between GH¢ 100 and GH¢1,000 depending on the recommendations from the Municipal Disability Fund Management Committee .
Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha disclosed that the assembly places premium on the welfare of persons with various forms of disabilities and urged them to use the monies for the intended purpose.
The MCE indicated that the fund was aimed at ameliorating their plight and urged them to judiciously use the money to benefit their dependents especially those with children.
“The money is not meant for you to lavish on meat and other things but as seed money for you to invest and reap the benefits therefore”, he advised.
He assured of the assembly’s commitment to empower more numbers of disabled persons in the future depending on resources available to the assembly noting that it is a major constraint to his outfit.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the assembly for the gesture and promise to use the funds for the intended purpose.
They were particularly happy the assembly has over the years been prompt in responding to their plight and thanked the MCE, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha for championing their course.
