Afoko Denied Bail

An Accra High Court hearing the case involving Gregory Afoko, the brother of the suspended National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has been refused bail – again.

According to the trial judge, the denial of the bail was in the interest of the public and Gregory himself. The case was adjourned to July 12 for the commencement of the trial.

Class FM’s Nabil Ahmed Rufai reported that lawyers for Mr Afoko pleaded with the court to, at least, seize the passport of Mr Afoko in order to render him incapable of running away if he was granted bail, but the court denied the application.

Gregory Afoko is standing trial for allegedly murdering the late Upper East Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama, in May 2015.
