Alan Kyerematen, Agyarko, Others To Be Vetted Today

Four ministerial nominees namely; Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Minister-Designate for local government and rural development, Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister-Designate for Agriculture, Dr.Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Minister-Designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko will today face the Appointment’s Committee of parliament to be vetted.

Focus, however, appears to be on policy adviser and minister-designate for Energy Boakye Agyarko who is likely to be quizzed on how he will prevent an energy crises.

Over the past three years, the country has struggled with interrupted power supply, popularly termed ‘Dumsor’. The business community has especially borne the brunt of ‘dumsor’ with some recording losses and others shutting down.  Mr. Agyarko will be expected to provide pragmatic solutions to dealing with the power crisis, which still lingers.

On trade, Mr.   Kyerematen may have to explain how he will ensure businesses thrive and see significant growth over the next four years.

Hajia Alima Mahama is likely to be asked among other things  about the election of MMDCEs from 2018, and the Minister-designate of Agriculture may be questioned on how he intends to turn around the  fortunes of the agricultural sector.

Six nominees including Senior Minister-designate Yaw Osafo Marfo, Finance Minister-designate Ken Ofori Atta, Minister-designate for National security Albert Kan-Dapaah and Defense minister nominee Dominic Nitiwul have all been vetted.

Meanwhile, a member of the legal team of the NDC, Abraham Amaliba,  has urged members of the committee to ask relevant and critical questions during the vetting.
