A woman at Atwima Mim, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region, was tortured to death by her husband in the early hours of Wednesday May 11, after he bathed her with acid.
Reports indicate that the couple had been having frequent quarrels, a situation that led the woman to threaten to leave her two-bedroom matrimonial home shortly before her husband launched the acid attack on her.
radioxyzonline.com gathered that even though the couple lived in the same house, they slept in separate rooms.
Akosua Asantewaa, an eyewitness, told reporters that she was asleep when she heard screams for help by the victim around midnight of Tuesday May 10. She said she quickly barged into the couple’s room only to find the victim wallowing in excruciating pain from the acid bath, with her skin peeling off.
The Good Samaritan said she also got burnt by the substance as she tried assisting the victim. Akosua said the victim’s husband ignored all frantic calls on him to attend to his dying wife. The victim later told Akosua that her husband was the assailant.
The victim was rushed to the hospital at Afari, a nearby town, for treatment, but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she later died.
A formal report has been lodged with the police. The home of the couple was later seen burning. Neighbours said they suspected it was a case of arson perpetrated by the husband, who later absconded.
