Bernard Anaba: ECG Should Be State Managed

A Policy Analyst at The Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), Bernard Anaba says, it has been their position that ECG should not be privatized, but since Government has gone ahead with the Private Sector Participation (PSP), they hope it goes well.

Speaking on The XYZ Breakfast Show, Bernard Anaba said, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), should be state managed because Government could managed it better.

“ ECG is a Company that should not be running loses , since it is more or less a monopoly Company in the Energy Sector, in terms of distribution and also a strategic sector for Government , we thought it would have been better if it had remained in Government’s hands” he stressed.

According to him, in terms of ECG being privatized, the cost to the ordinary Ghanaian could be higher because it is a Private Sector coming in to run the System.

Government has intensified moves to offer concessions for Private Sector Participation in the areas of Management, Operation and Investment in the electrical distribution business of The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Meanwhile, The Millennium Development Authority (MIDA), says, the search for Private Participation in the management and operation of The Electricity Company Of Ghana, is part of the process to positively transform Ghana’s Power Sector.
