The Veterinary Services Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has taken steps to disinfect a poultry farm at New Takoradi, a suburb of Tarkwa in the Western Region, after 300 birds were destroyed over a fresh outbreak of bird flu.
A fresh case of the bird flu was recorded in the area recently at a poultry farm and the farmer lost 50 of his birds.
A team of veterinary and environmental officials at the weekend also stepped in and destroyed an additional 250 birds, eight crates of eggs, four bags of poultry feed, and empty egg crates suspected to have been infected with the disease.
The action was taken to avert a further spread of the disease. According to veterinary officers, the owner of the farm and his family have also been handed over to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) for screening.
