Commey: Buckland Was Better Than Easter

Ghana’s Richard Commey (24-1, 22 KOs) has described IBF lightweight champion Robert Easter Jr. (18-0, 14 KOs) as the least of boxers he has fought compared to Garry Buckland.

Commey lost his first ever bout to a split decision on Friday night at the Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Both fighters came out blasting away moments into the fight. The taller Easter used his superior reach to keep Commey at bay with sharp jabs but Commey thinks otherwise.

“Robert Easter is very good, but I won’t say he is the best. But rather choose Garry Buckland because he is a pound for pound guy and during the bout nobody fell and we traveled all the rounds as in this one,” he told radioxyzonline.

With Buckland, Commey won by a unanimous decision last year in London.

One judge saw the bout 114-113 for Commey but was overruled by the other two officials, who had it 114-113 and 115-112 for Robert Easter Jr. giving him the split decision victory and the vacant IBF lightweight title.
