The Conventions People Party (CPP) says it is not happy with the Electoral Commission decision to reject demands to compile a new voters’ register for the 2016 general elections.
This comes on the back of the EC’s announcement that the petition by the New Patriotic Party and some pressure groups for a new voters register was “unconvincing.”
According to the Youth Organiser of the party,Ernesto Yeboah, “it is not particularly a welcoming news, especially giving the rigorous engagement that we have had with the Electoral Commission, to the point of inviting us to a round table where we submitted the reasons why we believe that Ghana deserves a new voters’ register.
He also questioned how the current one would be audited by the Electoral Commission and said that the CPP would do all it can to ensure the process was credible.
“We will study the letter and then come out with a formal response but we are not happy. If there is going to be auditing how is it going to be done,” he asked.
“We understand that an IT company has been contracted, as to how they got this particular company nobody knows. We will have to find out all these things. We have our volunteers on standby to go through each and every name,” he said.
