Defeated NDC Member of Parliament drags the Party, The winner and The EC to Court

The defeated NDC Member of Parliament, for Afram Plains North Constituency, in the Eastern Region, Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye, has sued the MP elect for the area, Betty Crosby Mensah, The NDC and The Electoral Commission for violating the 1992 Constitution.

 

The MP, in his statement of claim before, the Koforidua High Court, said, The EC must count the votes again, because he suspects some under-hand dealings. He also noted that, voting in about five Communities started late.

 

He is, therefore, praying the court to re-run the election in those areas. The dissatisfied MP, has filed another suit, at The Accra High Court over the qualification, of the winner, under Article 94 (2) (d), of the Constitution.

 

He argued that, Madam Betty Crosby, was involved in some financial impropriety as a Deputy National Co-ordinator for the Ghana Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Agency.

 

After the voting on Saturday November 21, 2015, the incumbent MP, who contested against five others, polled 2,529 representing 27.70% of the total votes cast, whiles the winner, Betty, polled 2,664 votes representing 29.81% of the votes.

 

The other contenders, Windham Emil Afram managed 687, Evans Apraku 431, Kpeli Walase, 2115 and Adamu Musah, 703. But Interestingly, The MP, is praying The Court, to order The EC to declare him, as the winner.
