Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Council, Reverend Steve Wengam, is appealing to Ghanaians not to demonize the Justice for All Programme instituted by the Chief Justice to help decongest the country’s prisons.
Speaking on the radio XYZ breakfast show, the prison council chairman said the fact that one person who benefited from the programme had come out to commit a crime did not mean that the programme was not a good one.
“The Justice for All Programme is one of the best things that has happened to our judicial system and has put Ghana on the world map” he said.
According to the Rev. Wengam, instead of condemning the system, the country’s prisons must be resourced enough to enable prisoners properly reform before they come out.
“Let us look at the larger picture. This is an opportunity for us to re-visit the conditions in our prisons and ask ourselves…are we committed resources enough to enable us reform our prisons”
