Abusua Dwarfs have fired Coach J.E. Sarpong, the club have confirmed.
Coach Sarpong’s sack follows the club’s 0-3 defeat to Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday May 8.
“We have observed that the club has been performing poorly since the beginning of the 2015/16 football season. In fact, apart from the fact that we were eliminated in the initial stages in the FA Cup competition, we have also gained only nine points from a maximum of 33 points in the ongoing 2015/16 Premier League. The club is, therefore, threatened with relegation,” the club said in a letter signed by Secretary J.F. Mensah to Coach Sarpong.
The letter further read: “In order to reverse the trend, the Board and Management have decided to conduct an assessment of the situation to identify the problems militating against the desired performance of the club.
“In view of this, I have been directed by the Board Chairman who doubles as the president of the club and the Chief Executive Officer, to relieve you of your post as head coach with immediate effect.”
Management of the club have promised to compensate the veteran coach with three months’ salary.
Dwarfs sit bottom of the league with nine points after 11 matches.
