Education sector to provide 1,400 new jobs – Mahama

President Mahama has said his administration is on course to ensure that printing of learning materials are done locally.
Delivering the state of the nation address, the president said the move will create about 1, 400 new direct jobs in the Ghanaian businesses.

His comments come on the back of complaints by local printers that the government has relegated them to the background and offered contracts to foreigners to print text books for students in Ghana.

Touting his achievements in the education sector, President Mahama said his administration is on course to train quality teachers through the Teacher Development project.

He added that over 1000 school uniforms and sandals have been distributed to basic schools across the country, with new senior high schools to be constructed.

President Mahama said six polytechnics so far have passed the 16 point test for them to be converted into technical universites. They are the Kumasi, Accra, Koforidua, Ho, Sunyani, and Takoradi polytechnics.

He added that the current Community Day SHS programme will be the biggest intervention in Ghana’s education history.
