E/R: MTTD Impounds 26 Motorbikes

The Motor Traffic and Transport department of the Ghana Police Service in the Eastern region has impounded 26 motorbikes in the region for flouting various road safety regulations which include driving without helmet and reckless driving.

The motorbike riders are expected to be arraigned before court today, Thursday, September 22.

The Eastern regional MTTD commander, ACP Ebenezer Larbi in an interview with our correspondent  said pedestrians being knocked down have increased astronomically in the region hence the exercise.

He said 97 pedestrians were knocked down in the first six months of this year leading to fatal injuries.

He said the suspects will be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

ACP Larbi added that the Police MTTD will be meeting leaders of political parties in the region on September 30, 2016 to ensure that their supporters obey the road traffic regulations during campaigns.

He said the Police will not hesitate in arresting supporters of political parties who ride recklessly and flout road safety regulations.
