img-20161017-wa0034Clad in red attire and led by La Fetish Priest, and Priestesses, The Coalition of La Youth Association accused some Government Officials and The Ghana Armed Forces for arbitrarily taking their lands, without recourse to The 1992 Constitution Of Ghana.

According to The Group, The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, who doubles as The Commander-In-Chief of Ghana Armed Forces, has allowed The Military and private persons, to take lands belonging to the people of La, Osu, Teshie and Nungua, in The Greater Accra Region with impunity. The angry youth alleged that, The University Of Ghana, Legon’s lands are being turned into private projects, The GIMPA Fronts, Amrahia Diary Farm Projects, Cantonments and many more without invoking Article 20 clause 5&6 Of The 1992 Constitution Of Ghana – that lands acquired in the interest of the State for specific projects should revert to their allodia owners, when the project changes, or if Government, abandoned the idea.img-20161017-wa0035

“What we see in the current Government is the arbitrary sale of public lands to private people and the arbitrary take-over of lands by Government Officials”.  The Group at a news conference, addressed by Augustine Nii Amua Nai, said, “during President Kufour’s Administration, we witnessed several unjust treatments against the Ga-Dangmes, with several reported cases of land grabbing, a situation which the NDC Party’s Campaign Team benefitted enormously from culminating in their electoral victory in 2008”.

According to them, “ The new NDC Government, led by Professor John Evans Atta Mills, initiated actions on the issues resulting in not only the re-distribution of  lands, to the allodia owners, but recognizing and appointing quite a number of our Ga-Dangme Compatriots into positions thus restoring the dignity and fortunes of The Ga-Dangme people.

The Former Presiding Member of The La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly and Chairman of The Association noted that “one would have thought that this great move by The Good Professor would have been sustained and consolidated, by his successor (President Mahama”.

“But sadly, that is not the case. The Government was not only unable to sustain and consolidate, but rather rolled back the gains made so far on this land issue.  With the connivance of the Ghana Armed Forces and The Lands Commission, Ga –Dangme lands have been plundered in an unprecedented manner”.

img-20161017-wa0038The Group believed that a word from our President and Commander –In –Chief of The           Ghana Armed Forces, would have brought some order and sanity to bear on this rather unruly behaviour by the Military.

The Association also said the on-going troubles could be put at the door-steps, of some of their own people who are in Government.

“Sadly enough, our brothers and sisters around and within the corridors of power, have lost their voices relative to affecting the Ga –Dangme people, whose silence, we find as condoning the raw deal Government is serving our people.  He poses this question: Is the Government not aware that The Ghana Armed Forces has arbitrarily destroyed farmlands, without compensation to the affected, and the outright stealing of our lands, under the guise of Buffer Zone Creation?ʽʽ It has also been alleged that, one Ibrahim Mahama is part of the syndicate engaged in this plundering of our lands”.
