Kadiri : Greenstreet Poll Boycott Threat ‘Light Comment’

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has played down the withdrawal of the party from contesting in the December 7 polls.

The flagbearer of the party, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, indicated last week that he may pull out of the 2016 presidential race to register his displeasure against the GHS50000 filing fee announced by the Electoral Commission (EC).

At an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra on Thursday September 8, the EC announced that parliamentary candidates would have to pay GHS10000 to file their nomination while presidential candidates are expected to part with GHS50000.

CPP Communications Director Rauf Kadiri has said the party will use every means to oppose the decision by the EC but the comments by Mr Greenstreet should be taken with a pinch of salt.

“When the flag bearer spoke about the party withdrawing, he spoke on a lighter note. The position of the party to Ghanaians is that we will use every legitimate means to oppose it,” he told Joy FM on Sunday September 11.
