Kenichi Yatsuhashi wins on league debut as 2015/2016 GHPL kicks off.

After months of legal tussles involving bribery and corruption allegations as well as protests against player eligibility, the 2015/ 2016 Ghana premier league commenced this weekend.

Charles Boateng and Samuel Tetteh were on the score sheet as WAFA beat former champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko 2-0 in the first game of the season on Saturday. The setback was Kotoko’s second successive loss at Sogakope after their 1-0 defeat last season.

Samuel Yeboah scored in the 78th minute to hand Kenichi Yatsuhashi and Accra Hearts of Oak a lone goal win over New Edubiase at the Accra Sports Stadium. The win was the Japanese-American coach’s first on his league debut in front of an expectant crowd and compatriots.


Holders, Ashantigold SC revenged their Ghana Super Cup loss as they beat MTN FA Cup winners, Medeama SC by 2-1 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. Twins, Fuseini and Alhassan Nuhu getting the goals for the miners. Bernard Ofori got the consolation goal for Medeama from the spot kick.

Herbert Addo masterminded a 2-0 win for Inter Allies against his former club, Aduana Stars. Ropapa Mensah and Isaac Twum getting the goals for the Tema based side. Wa All-Stars moved to the top of the league following a 3-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas. A brace from Maxwell Baako and a further strike from Richard Arthur handed Wa All-Stars the victory. Issaka Ibrahim scored against his former club as promoted side, Techiman city shocked Berekum Chelsea 1-0 in a regional derby at the Nana Ameyaw Park.


Premier league returnees, Abusua Dwarfs fell by the same score to debutants, Dreams FC at the Robert Mensah Stadium. Johnson Owusu giving Dreams FC a dream start. Bechem United earned maximum points in a 2-0 victory over Liberty Professionals. Francis Afriyie and Yaw Andoh notched the goals for Bechem United.
