The three Police officers who were put in custody following claims that they beat the 27-year-old Krofrom resident to death have been released, XYZ News has learnt.
The officers were set free after an autopsy conducted on the body of the deceased cleared them of any wrong doing.
The three, who were chasing the suspect, reportedly tortured him to death after capturing him in the Kumasi suburb.
Meanwhile, residents of the Krofrom community have rejected the autopsy report accusing the regional Police commander and doctors at the Komfo Anokye Hospital, who conducted the autopsy, of conniving to clear the police officers.
A relative of the deceased invoked curses on the Police and doctors who conducted the autopsy for peddling falsehood.
“Kofi Boakye promised us a thorough investigation into the incident but today he is saying on Hello FM that our brother died of natural causes.
“If they insist that it was a heart attack that killed our brother no problem but we leave him and the doctor into the hands of all the deities in Kumasi…they will be dealt with.”
XYZ News understands the latest clash with the police has left a number of properties destroyed including a police vehicle.
According to residents, several calls that the deceased was not a criminal and was a case of mistaken identity fell on deaf ears as the Police officers brutally assaulted the victim with batons and dragged him on the streets till he became unconscious.
He was later bundled into a Police van and sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
His death angered the youth of Krofom who blocked roads and burnt tires in protest of the youngman’s death.
The three Police officers were subsequently arrested by the Ashanti regional Police command.
