K’si: Confusion hits assembly poll

There was chaos at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi Tuesday May 17 where elected members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly were voting to select a presiding member for the assembly.

Speaking to XYZ News on Tuesday May 17, Assembly Member for Ridge Nhyiaeso Electoral Area Abraham Boadi explained that: “This is the first time that we are using photo on the ballot; we have not used [that] before. We do not know the number of ballot sheets, so, at least, you have to alert the candidates and their agents.

But there are no agents [and] there is no information. How will I know the number of ballots that we have? So, I drew the attention of the Electoral Commission that we have to find agents to verify everything before we continue and that is their problem… they said they would not allow me,” he explained.

However, an eye witness told Ashanti Regional correspondent Owaohene Addai Munukunu that: “When we started the voting, Abraham Boadi went to the EC, I think just to clarify something. The voting was ongoing [but] Francis Dodovi of the governing NDC raised concerns about what Mr Boadi was doing at the EC’s table. So, [there was a] confrontation and that caused the whole hullabaloo.”
