Police in the Ashanti Regional capital have arrested three people in connection with examination malpractices. The three were arrested at the Ascension Senior High School.
They include the headmaster of the school, Ekow Quashie, who was caught with questions of some yet-to-be-written papers on his mobile phone.
An English literature teacher and a candidate from the school were also arrested for trying to sneak materials containing solved questions to other candidates.
The teacher, a female, is said to have given the candidate the solved answers to be given to the students inside the exams hall.
Three West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers – Oral English, Integrated Science and Social Studies papers – have so far leaked.
Some students in the Greater Accra and the Eastern regions had access to the examination papers between 12 midnight and 4 am on the day the papers were written.
The papers were mainly circulated among the students through social media platforms.
In 2015, barely 48 hours to the start of the WASSCE, photos of some question papers began circulating on social media, raising questions about the credibility of the examination.
Again, a similar leakage compelled the council to cancel five subject papers in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) — papers 2 of English Language, Religious and Moral Education, Integrated Science, Mathematics and Social Studies.
