Lloyd Amoah: Bawumia Won’t Be Overshadowed In Akufo-Addo Govt

A lecturer at the Center for Asian studies at the University of Ghana Dr. Lloyd Amoah has said NPP running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will not be overshadowed under the Presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the economic expertise and exposure of the former deputy governor of the Central Bank will make it difficult for anybody to underrate him in government.

Contributing to a discussion on the role of Vice Presidents in a presidential system of governance that the choice of a running mate is critical to the outlook of a presidential candidate.

“It is important that the Presidential candidate picks someone who is equal to him to be his running mate. For example, we are seeing a potential Nana Addo- Bawumia ticket. Nana Addo will definitely need Dr. Bawumiah’s economic science skills and his long experience with fiscal policy.

“So I don’t see how in a potential Nana Addo presidency, Bawumia will be locked out. He is younger and that also speaks into the dynamics,” he said.

Also contributing to the discussion, pollster Ben Ephson said the choice of a running mate is critical to the electoral fortune of a political party in Ghana.

He for instance, attributed the victory of the late President John Mills in the 2008 elections to his selection of then running mate John Mahama, now President of the republic.
