Mahama : I’ll Transform Ghana’s Economy In My Second Term

President John Dramani Mahama has stated that his second term, if given the nod, would focus on the country’s economic transformation.

Speaking at the Eid-ul-Adha commemoration on Monday, President Mahama said Ghana has the potential to become a net exporter of food, power and healthcare to other West African states if his government is given the mandate to build on the foundation he has laid.

According to Mr. Mahama “across all sectors we are laying a solid foundation for the imminent take off of what I call an economic transformation, God willing in my second term in office.”

He added “I envision Ghana becoming a net exporter of food, power, education and healthcare to the rest of the ECOWAS sub-region.”

The President who is seeking a second term in office on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress in the upcoming December 7 elections said the economic transformation will lead to the creation of jobs and other development opportunities.

“Through the implementation of this economic transformation and other policy initiative, we will create for Ghanaians massive employment and economic development opportunities. But let us work together, let us be each other’s keeper and let us love our neighbors as ourselves.”

President Mahama also noted that Ghanaians must come out of the crucial polls more united than ever as he faces his main rival Nana Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party for the second time since 2012.

“As we gradually inch towards the 2016 General Elections, we should all endeavour to uphold the peace that has characterised our elections and has defined us as a people. It is this that has made us to be described as the model of democracy in Africa,” Mahama stated.
