It was all joy at Kwamekrom in the Biakoye District of the Volta Region on Monday when President John Dramani Mahama inaugurated a Community Day Senior High School (SHS) in the predominantly farming community.
Facilities in the school included 24 classrooms, ICT and science laboratories, Library, offices and an assembly hall among others.
The Community Day SHS is the flagship education project of the President, who stated that 123 of the schools were awarded on contract.
He said access to SHS had been a major problem to many rural communities. That was why the Community Day SHS concept was initiated to help address the problem.
President Mahama told the chiefs and people of the Kwamekrom community that, ” The school belongs to you that is why it is called Community Day SHS. ”
He, therefore, urged the Chiefs and people to collaborate with the school administration to bring the best out of the school.
President Mahama said everything that would facilitate effective teaching and learning had been provided in the school.
“So we demand excellence from those who teach in this school,” the President added.
Unknown schools improve
Making reference to the strides being made by “unknown schools” in academic performance, the President indicated that it gave meaning to the improvement in educational standards.
President Mahama advised students who would enrol in the Kwamekrom SHS to work hard to take their studies seriously.
The Paramount Chief commended President Mahama for the project and said the people of the area would always be grateful to him and the NDC government.
