Mango Farmers in the Manya Krobo District of Eastern Region have expressed their displeasure towards the Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah, for failing to honour a promise he made, of visiting mango farmers in the area.
Chairman of the Mango Farmers Association Edward Amanor said a durbar was organized to welcome the minister to interact, and share their challenges for proper redress. But the minister failed to turn up without any reason whatsoever or proper representation.
He stated that the visit would have been the first of its kind in the history of the association
“We were informed about two weeks ago that the Trade Minister wanted to meet mango farmers in the Manya Krobo district. For us it was an opportunity to share with the minister our frustration and challenges and also seek his assistance to help grow our business. So we organized a durbar in his honour. We later learnt that when the minister left Koforidua and got to Odumase, he was asked to come back to Accra and we see this as totally unfair. Our concern is that, had the minister not come at all, we would have understood. But for him to come to Koforidua and driven all the way to Odumase and only to return to Accra, without a proper feedback to us is disturbing.
