Medeama coach Tom Strand believes his team’s morale has improved going into the new season following their victory over Ashanti Gold to win the 2016 Ghana Super Cup.
The Swede says this victory will motivate his players ahead of the domestic league new season and the CAF Confederations Cup.
Medeama defeated reigning league champions Ashanti Gold 1-0 in the annual season opener at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
“I think it is a big boost for us going into the new season,” Strand said.
“It is a motivation for us [ahead of] the league and the Confederations Cup. This will be my first time playing in Africa with the club. So it’s a good one.
“Obviously, we want to finish in the top four [in the league], but we also have to improve [our performance first]. Finishing in the top four will be a good one.”
Having drawn a bye for the Confederations Cup preliminary round, Medeama, who booked their place by winning the 2015 Ghana FA Cup, are awaiting the victors of the Al-Ittihad Tripoli-AS SONIDEP clash for a date in the first round in March.
The Tarkwa-based football club is scheduled to kick of their 2015-16 Ghana Premier League campaign with a trip to Obuasi, where they face Ashanti Gold on February 20.
They begin this season knowing that they were placed at a disappointing 11th position at the end of last season.
