MTN has presented GHS40,000 to support the 41st edition of the SWAG Awards to be held at the Banquet Hall of the State House on Saturday June 4.
Corporate Services Manager of MTN Cynthia Lumor presented the money to SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah at the launch of the awards Wednesday May 18 at the MTN Head Office at Ridge in Accra.
Ms Lumor expressed the telecommunication giant’s satisfaction at the deep-seated relationship with the sports body and assured guests at the event the firm would do more to promote sports in the country.
Addressing the media, Mr Kwabena Yeboah expressed his delight at the opportunity to once again crown the efforts of hardworking sports personalities for the year.
He expressed appreciation to MTN for their support over the last six years.
“SWAG stands for purity, virtue and transcendence and it is not by coincidence that we find ourselves inextricably bound with an exceedingly matchless, predominant, and supreme product like MTN. For six unbroken years, MTN has kept faith with their marriage with SWAG and I can stress with a strong degree of certainty that if the tuneful and melodious relationship is anything to go by, then this is a marriage for life as we hit the seventh year in 2016,” Mr Yeboah said.
Sports Minister and SWAG member Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye praised the executive body of SWAG for their hard work and dedication to service, which has culminated in the event being devoid of questions of integrity over the years.
In all, 26 sportsmen and women will be honoured. The highlight for the evening would be the sports personality of the year award with Coach Basigi Yusif, Bashir Hayford, Asamoah Gyan and Andre ‘Dede’ Ayew battling for the honours.
