NDC: Mahama received Ford vehicle for ‘mother Ghana’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended President Mahama’s receipt of a Ford vehicle from a Burkina Faso businessman.

The businessman went on to win two contracts worth about GH¢100 million from the government, according to an investigative report by Radioxyzonline.com.

The president’s conduct has been condemned by some members of the public who accuse him of violating his own code of ethics for ministers.

Reacting to the development on Accra-based Radioxyzonline.com on Wednesday, Fred Agbenyo, a deputy communications director of the NDC, rejected criticism of the President Mahama, saying that he did not accept the ‘gift’ for himself.

“…the President didn’t accept that as a gift for himself, he accepted the vehicle for mother Ghana,” he said.

Meanwhile the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has said that it would thoroughly investigate conflict of interest claims against President John Mahama over his receipt of a Ford Expedition vehicle from a Burkina Faso businessman in 2012.
Confirming the receipt of two petitions regarding the president’s conduct, the deputy commissioner of CHRAJ, Joseph Whittal, pledged that the commission would be thorough in its investigations and also make the results of its findings public.
“I will like to assure Ghanaians that the commission will live up to its constitutional responsibility in ensuring that thorough investigation is done and we will not sacrifice the thoroughness of the outcome of the investigation on the altar of the issues that may border on elections,” he said.
