National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Nkwanta South District of the Volta region are up against the party’s executives and the Volta Regional Minister for delaying in ensuring that the appointed District Chief Executive for the area is confirmed by the assembly in order to fast track development in the area.
The youth locked up the NDC’s party office and burnt tyres on the major road to express their displeasure. For the past eighteen months since the demise of the former DCE for the Nkwanta South District, the District has been without a DCE, a situation many say has brought the development of the area to a standstill.
In November last year, President John Dramani Mahama appointed Alfred Okanya to be the new DCE of the area but his confirmation by the Assembly has since been pending making it impossible for him to assume position.
The Assembly Members are blaming the Regional Minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso for continually postponing the confirmation of the newly appointed DCE. According to angry NDC constituency organizer for Nkwanta South, Boadin Nyame, several petitions to the region to ensure the confirmation of the DCE has not yielded result and are expressing fear the inaction will affect the ruling government.
The youth has therefore given the Regional Minister a two week ultimatum to ensure the confirmation of the appointed DCE or they will take much more drastic action.
