The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Antwi Boasiako, in a chat with Felix Kweku Vander-Pallen on the XYZ Breakfast show, said he is not aware of any attacks on a Fox fm presenter and Baah Acheamfour a member of the NPP. This is reported to have happened on Monday the 25th of April at Fox fm in Kumasi, during a radio discussion.
In an interview with our Ashanti Regional Correspondent Owaohen Addai Munukum, he stated that there is the need for radio stations in the region to ensure there is good security at their entry points.
About six macho men suspected to be members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Monday afternoon reportedly attacked the studios of Kumasi-based FM, beating up a youth activist of the NPP, Baah Acheamfuor, and some staff of the radio station.
The men, numbering about six on motorbikes, are believed to have been angered by allegations made by the NPP youth activist, against another member of the NPP in the region.
Host of the late afternoon political show, ‘Eboboba’ on Fox FM, Kwaku Kyere, said in the course of the discussion, Mr. Acheamfuor was attacked by the macho men who forced the doors of the studio opened.
According to him, Mr. Acheamfuor was making some brief comments about the NPP although that was not the subject for discussion.
He said in the process, Mr. Acheamfuor made some allegations against another member of the NPP by name Kwesi Kyei, who was forced to visit the studio to respond to the allegations. “We gave that member the opportunity to react since he is the communications director of the NPP in the region. Just as he was reacting, I was informed by one of my colleagues that some macho men are just forcing their way into the studio.
Before he could conclude what he was telling me, they had forced the studio doors opened and one of them hit me on the chest; so I quickly manoeuvred my way out of the studio. When the police came in they had already escaped and I was later told by my producers that Baah Acheamfuor was beaten.
“But no one needs to tell you because if you look at him, he has a red and swollen eye so he was indeed attacked in the studio.”
He said the police were quickly called in to rescue the situation.
“They really don’t know me personally otherwise they would have still attacked me behind the microphone. In fact, my colleague was also attacked before they went to Baah Acheamfuor. So the police later came in and escorted Baah Acheamfuor out of the studio so I am sure he went to the Hospital.
According to the host of the show, he has no knowledge about the identity of the men and had not seen them anywhere before. “I am told they came in with three motorbikes and they were about two on each motorbike”.
He said the police have commenced investigations into the matter after taking their statements.
