The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken its quest to garner more grass-roots support to ensure victory in the December 7 polls to the Ashaiman Constituency with the inauguration of the Zongo Ladies for Nana (ZLN).
Outreach and feting
As part of events for the day, the two groups, together with some of the NPP members in the constituency, went on an outreach to some parts of the Ashaiman municipality where they distributed stickers bearing the name of the party’s flag bearer for the 2016 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo.
The paraphernalia of the party, including branded T-shirts, headscarf and stickers, were given out to some of the residents, amidst dancing to the party’s campaign songs.
They also feted the residents of the area with rice and beans in what they called “Waachefest”. Scores of residents, including children, came out in their numbers to participate in the “Waachefest”.
Speaking to radioxyzonline on the sidelines of the event, Maame Akoto said the party was resolute in its quest to explore every avenue, including a one-on-one campaign, to win the elections.
“We are here with the message of hope. We are embarking on a retail campaign that will see us enter the ghettos, the bedrooms, the bathhouses, the shops and every corner to propagate the message to all people because there ought to be a change,” she added.
She said the policies that had been espoused by the party in the run-up to the December 7 polls were tailored to alleviate poverty, especially in the rural areas, and bring the country back to the path of development. She also said the good work that was done by former President John Agyekum Kufuor which put the economy on a sound footing had been truncated by the current government.
