At least one person has been reported dead and three others severely injured in a gun attack near the Royal House Chapel at Kaneshie in Accra.
According to an eyewitness, a security man at the Royal House Chapel was shot after he tried to deny some two men believed to be armed robbers access to the church premises, Wednesday.
The suspected robbers used the Royal House Chapel as an escape route after robbing a forex bureau at Pamprom, near Kaneshie.
“About three armed robbers including a woman were with money and were running while some traders and hawkers run after them screaming ‘thieves’, ‘thieves’. They gun men turned and shot at the people who run after them,” the eyewitness narrated on Accra-based Rainbow Radio.
The gunshots from the suspected robbers injured about three people. They continued to run after one of them shot the security man, the eyewitness narrated.
“They dispersed after the security man was shot. Two of them including the woman managed to escape but one of them was shot by another security man from an SIC building close to the church,” he recounted.
The shot and injured suspect who tried to scale a 9 foot wall and one other were arrested by the police when they arrived at the scene.
The eyewitness said some other people who struggled with the police for the money after the arrest of the suspects were shot by the police.
“About two of them have also been injured severely,” he added.
The injured have been rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment. One of the suspects escaped with gunshot wounds.
