A Broadcaster and entrepreneur, Mrs Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, has advised Ghanaian women to plan their families in order to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
DKT International is a non-governmental organisation that provides safe and affordable family planning options, and also for Human Immune-deficiency Virus (HIV) prevention through social marketing.
Mrs Mensah-Doku, who was unveiled as the Brand Ambassador of the “I plan” campaign, said the campaign would encourage young women to plan their lives better, stressing, “It is important to plan your family from the first to the last child by spacing them and not leaving it to chance.”
The Marketing Manager of DKT International, Mrs Kelly de Vries Adosu, indicated that the company believed that making contraceptives more affordable and available to the public was not enough, since women should have the power to plan their own lives.
She said a number of men and women in Ghana, still did not have all the necessary information and understanding on how they could effectively plan their families and indicated that the organisation would continue with its extensive education through the use of the mass and social media such as billboards, radio and television to educate the youth who were sexually active to understand the proper use of the contraceptive.
She mentioned the different ranges of Lydia contraceptive products as the daily oral contraceptive pill, Lydia safe load IUD and Lydia Postpil, and said a team would start ground activations with the objective of creating demand for a long –term contraceptive method such as Lydia IUD throughout the country.
