Scores Displaced As Floods Hit Koforidua

Hundreds of residents of Koforidua in the Eastern region have been rendered homeless following torrential rains that led to flooding parts of the municipality last Saturday.

Affected individuals are reportedly holding up in the homes of friends and relatives.

Parts of Alafia Zongo, Koforidua Magazine, Nsukwao, Efijuase Asokere, Abriwa Nkwanta junction, Koforidua highway and the entrance to the regional Fire Service office were affected by the floods.

The National Disaster Management Organization dashed to the scene to do an assessment of the situation.

The New Juaben Municipal Coordinator of NADMO, Kwasi Opare, has attributed the cause of the flood to the narrow drains and the indiscriminate dumping of rubbish into the drains.

“We advise residents to stop the indiscriminate dumping of refuse to avoid such occurrences,” he said in an interview.
