Tanko Warns : Consult Gyan Before Stripping Captaincy

Former Black Stars striker, Ibrahim Tanko, has called on coach Avram Grant to intervene in the purported captaincy debate in the team by consulting Asamoah Gyan first.

Gyan has consistently been in and out from the team in recent times over injuries and Andre Dede Ayew has been tipped as a perfect replacement as the new captain for the team if Gyan fails to make it to the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Tanko believes in the past the Black Stars’ captaincy has destroyed team work and therefore common grounds must be met before any decision is settled on.

“I think if Gyan is out due to injuries then Dede could be a good leader because everyone knows this including players. Gyan for now is the general captain and must be consulted before giving the armband to Dede because we are working towards one goal.

“The Coach therefore should play a big role in this decision if he thinks Dede deserves it”, he said in an interview.

Ayew captained the Black Satellites to win their first ever FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2009.
