Team Nigeria Rule McDan Open Tennis Tourney

Nigeria’s duo of Michael Moses and Sarah Adegoke dominated this year’s edition of the McDan West Africa Open Championship held at the Accra Stadium on Saturday.

Adegoke defeated Ghana’s Kate Coleman in a two straight set (6-1, 6-0) in the finals of the women’s category. In similar fashion, Moses also defeated Ghana’s number two seed Wisdom Na-Adjrago 7-5, 6-2.

The visiting female winner took home a trophy, products from sponsors and a cash prize of $500, while Moses received $1,000 cash, a giant trophy and products from sponsors.

Moses said after the tourney that “Winning this tournament was my top priority, I did not take the tournament for granted and like I do for other tournaments, coming into McDan Open, I won last edition of National communication commission championship.”

Group Chairman of McDan Shipping and Logistics, Dr Daniel Mckorley commended the players for participating in the competition and wished them well in future competitions.

He said supporting the growth and development of tennis was part of his company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that is why he has been supporting them for the past three years.

He assured the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) of his continuous support and urged the Ghanaian players to do their best in the next edition.

Former Sports Minister, Mahama Ayariga who graced the event commended the organizers for a successful event and called on other corporate bodies to emulate the works of McDan.

This year’s event was sponsored by McDan Shipping and Logistics with support from Rush Energy, AF West Security, West Blue Consults, Babolat and the National Sports Authority (NSA).
