The Tema Metropolitan Assembly has presented ninety two outboard motors for the fishing community at a subsidies rate to enhance fishing in the area.
According to the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Isaac Ashai Odamtteng, the initiative forms part of the assurance made by the president in fulfillment of providing over three thousand outboard motors nationwide, for fisher folks on the coastal belt.
He stated that the interventions will reduce fish importation into the country.
“This gesture is in furtherance of the promise made by the president to support the fishing communities in the country. Government is out to provide about three thousand outboard motors for our fisher folks. The first batch is what we are working on and Tema has about 1000. The first batch of 100 is what we are working on right now.”
The Tema Boss further explained the requirement and mode of payment for the fisher folks amidst the happiness intervention has brought to the fisher folks.
“What happens is that we work we work through the canoe owners association and the key stakeholders such that you must be a canoe owner and your canoe must be known to be functional and then you get registered, pay your deposit and then we get the machines for you and we pay the subsidy.”
