UG are 2016 UPAC Basketball champions

First time conquerors, University of Ghana (UG) piped two consecutive time winners, Accra Polytechnic 45-44 to clinch the 3rd edition of the Rexona Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

This is the second major success of the year for the Team UG, having won the basketball competition of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) games earlier this year at the University of Education, Winneba.

Last year’s runners up, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) clinched the third spot after beating Takoradi polytechnic 48-45 in the third-place play-offs.

Team UG were awarded GHC 3000 and products from sponsors. Accra Polytechnic had GHC 1500. UG coach, Meme Falconer was named coach of the tournament plus Muhaimin Guba of UG as the most valuable player.

The UPAC basketball games is an event organized by Rite Multimedia in partnership with the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA). The championship was played across eight regions and involved warm up games, zonal qualifying rounds before the finals of the championship.
