Two Returning Officers of the Electoral Commission who were returning from a workshop on Wednesday evening lost their lives in a gory accident on the Sunyani-Wenchi road in the Brong Ahafo Region.
According to Eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the saloon car they were travelling on collided with a Sunyani-bound tipper truck from the opposite direction.
The truck, with registration number, BA 730-12, was carrying quarry materials. The occupant of the saloon car is receiving treatment at the Sunyani Government Hospital.
The deceased are an assistant Headmaster of the Wenchi Senior High School, Mr. Adu Damoah, and a circuit Supervisor, Atta Bise, who is also a teacher in the Wenchi area.
According to the Sunyani MTTD Commander Supt. Daniel Asirifi, it took the Police and the rescue team involving the Ghana National Fire Service personnel about seven minutes to reach the scene of the accident to retrieve the bodies as well as rescue the survivor.
“It took almost two hours before the body could be removed from the mangled vehicle. We had to cut the body of the vehicle before we were able to remove the bodies of the two people,” he said.
All the vehicles have since been towed from the accident scene to the MTTD station.
