Residents living within the Weija Dam area have been urged by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to move to safer grounds as the spillways of the dam get opened to allow excess water to gush out.
Communications Manager of GWCL Stanley Martey told the XYZ Breakfast Show host, Kweku Vander-Pallen that the onset of the rains had caused the dam to overflow, thus, the need to spill excess water to forestall damage to the dam.
The spillage of excess water has become an annual ritual.
Once excess water is spilled, communities close to Weija, such as Tetegu, Oblogo, Panbros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Bojo Beach, Ada Kopey and others within that enclave will bear the brunt of floods should the rains keep falling within the same period.
“We have started minimal spillage,” Mr Martey confirmed, adding that it was crucial for residents there to be wary of the effects of the spillage.
“They will have to evacuate the area before any eventuality.”
