The Yilo Krobo Traditional Council has launched the 2016 annual Kloyosikplemi festival at Somanya in the Eastern Region.
The acting president of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Tetteh Odorkor Tumeh, who launched the programme on the theme: “Unity in development,” urged the people to cement their differences and forge ahead in unity to fast-track the socio-economic development of the area.
According to Nene Tumeh, their ancestors lived in peace and developed the area which the present generation inherited, and as such “it behove us, the current generation, to continue with what our ancestors left behind otherwise posterity will not forgive us.”
“This year’s festival is a platform for unification and I personally want God to touch our hearts in the traditional area to see the need to come together as a people and forge ahead to develop our own place,’’ Nene Tumeh stressed.
According to the secretary of the festival planning committee, Mr G.G.B. Adjrackor, the week-long programme will start with the homecoming of indigenes on Monday, November 7 at Sra-Somanya. This will be followed by a football gala on the same day. He mentioned other activities to include a clean-up exercise and a meeting with the clan chiefs, a quiz competition for basic schools in the traditional area, a remembrance day, cultural display and talks on the history of Yilo Krobos.
The rest are a visit to the Krobo mountains, grand durbar, health screening and blood donation exercises, beauty contest and interdenominational church service.
The Yilo Krobo Paramount Queenmother, Nana Korlekuor Adjadoo III, advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to foment trouble in this year’s electioneering in the area.
