The Coalition of Central Regional youth have accused government for kicking out the Cape Coast Polytechnic from the list of the 6 polytechnics to be converted into technical universities in the country.
‘Fairness must prevail in the conversion of the polytechnics into Universities, we were hopeful that the Cape Coast Polytechnic will be part of the list, it has come as a surprise to us that it was not included in the list,’they expressed disappointment.
The irate group blamed the Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for smuggling Ho polytechnic into the list, alleging that it did not meet the criteria spelt out by the technical committee put in place to assess the various polytechnics in the country.
Addressing the media in Cape Coast on Monday, the Spokesperson of the Coalition, Richmond Yaw Yeboah accused the Deputy Minister of Education Pre- Tertiary Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of exhibiting tribalism in the selection of Polytechnics.
‘Selection of Ho Polytechnic is politically motivated, during one of the technical committee meetings, he said he will not sit aloof for his home polytechnic to be taken from the first list of polytechnics to be converted into a University,’ he alleged.
They further threatened to demonstrate and vote massively against the government should President Mahama go ahead to implement the report.
The Coalition of Central Regional youth made up of eight groups include: Fante Students Association, Abura Youth Confederacy, Ghana Muslim Students Association Alumni, Concerned Youth Abura, Cape Coast North, Cape Coast Development Association, Cape Coast Polytechnic Alumni and Central Regional Youth for Development’.
