NDC parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle constituency Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has finally registered with the Electoral Commission as a voter on the first day of the limited voter registration exercise.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings registered at about 8:30am on Thursday 28th April, 2016 at Nyaniba Polling Station in her constituency.
Her candidacy has been challenged by incumbent Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashitey, whom she beat to the governing party’s ticket for the November 2016 parliamentary poll.
According to Mr Ashitey, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings did not qualify to be elected as the parliamentary candidate since, at the time of the contest, she was not a registered voter in the country.
Mr Ashitey filed a joint suit with fellow defeated candidate Nii Johnson Coleman at the Accra High Court to challenge the eligibility of Dr Agyeman-Rawlings after she beat the two of them in the primary.
Nii John Coleman later withdrew from the case, leaving Mr Ashitey as the only plaintiff.
But Dr Agyeman-Rawlings later filed an application at the Supreme Court with her lawyers arguing that the High Court did not have jurisdiction to hear the case.
They are therefore seeking “an order of prohibition directed to Justice Kwaku T. Ackah Boafo of the High Court” to stop the judge from hearing the case at the High Court.
The case has been adjourned to 3rd May, 2016.
